Overnight newborn care specialist
Hearth & Haven Families is a private roster of night nurses, newborn care specialists, postpartum doulas, nannies and household staff serving New York City families. Every caregiver on the roster is verified to a single standard — identity, credentials and references checked before you ever see a name. We call it Hearth & Haven Verified.
Families: the rate guide and your first request are free — membership is $49/month for full roster access. · Caregivers: free, always — we never charge the people who do the caring.
Open needs are real requests families have posted in New York–area parent communities, catalogued and anonymized by our team. They are demand we are actively matching — not Hearth & Haven members or customers.
Finding a name in a Facebook group is easy. Knowing who is actually walking into your home at 10pm with your newborn is the hard part — so we do that work once, properly, and keep every caregiver's file current.
Government ID checked and matched to the person you will meet. No aliases, no surprises.
Newborn care and doula certifications, CPR/first aid, and role-specific training verified against the issuing body where applicable.
We personally speak with two past families or employers — not emailed forms — and score reliability, judgment and warmth.
A third-party background check is completed before any engagement begins, sequenced in line with NYC's Fair Chance Act.
A clear, current look at what New York families are paying for overnight newborn care, newborn care specialists and postpartum doulas — plus the agency fees that can sit on top of the hourly rate. No sales pitch, just the numbers we use when helping families plan.

Marketplace night care — $30–45/hr
Certified newborn care specialist — $35–60+/hr
RN-level newborn care — $45–85/hr
Postpartum doula — $45–85/hr
The benchmark: NYC’s night-nanny median is $45/hr — about $360 per 8-hour night in caregiver pay.
What moves the price: credentials and experience, nights per week and shift length, twins or medically complex needs, short-notice starts, and travel.
Watch the add-ons: traditional agencies charge placement fees of 18–35% of compensation on top of the hourly rate. Always compare total cost, not just the hourly number.

How membership works, plainly: Hearth & Haven Families is a membership information and access service — we are not an employment agency. Members use the roster to engage caregivers directly, or complete a placement through one of our licensed partner agencies. Membership provides verified information, availability and introductions; it does not guarantee that a placement will be made.

Hearth & Haven Families is a matching and roster service. We find, verify and maintain the roster; we introduce families and caregivers who fit. Employment placements are completed together with licensed New York City agency partners, who handle the formal placement — that structure keeps every engagement properly papered and protected.
Our fees come from our agency partners and from family memberships — never from caregivers, and never as a surprise. You will always know what something costs before you commit to it.
Rates depend on the caregiver’s training, the schedule, and how much responsibility the role carries. These are the ranges we see in current New York market research — useful for planning, not a quote for a specific caregiver.
Bornbir’s NYC night-nanny median is $45/hr. At that benchmark, one eight-hour overnight is about $360 in caregiver pay, before any agency placement fee or other engagement costs.
A lower hourly quote is not always a lower total cost — schedule length, minimums and fees matter.
Traditional NYC agencies commonly charge families a placement fee of 18–35% of compensation, in addition to the caregiver’s pay. Ask whether a quote includes that fee, any registration charge, replacement terms and payroll obligations.
Hearth & Haven is a matching and roster service. Placements are completed by licensed partner agencies; Hearth & Haven does not claim to be a licensed agency.
Planning note: Multiples, medically complex care, 24-hour coverage, travel, short-notice starts and highly credentialed caregivers usually sit at the upper end of a range. A written scope matters more than a headline hourly rate.
The titles overlap in conversation, but the work is different. The right choice depends on whether your priority is sleep, specialized newborn care, support for the whole household — or a blend of all three.
A night nurse focuses on the baby overnight: feeding or bringing the baby to a nursing parent, diapering, soothing, settling and keeping a simple night log. Despite the title, a night nurse is not always a licensed nurse.
Families choose this when uninterrupted parental sleep is the main goal.
A newborn care specialist (NCS) brings focused training and experience in newborn routines, feeding, sleep shaping, reflux-aware care, multiples and early development. Many work overnight, 24-hour or travel engagements for a defined newborn period.
Families choose this when they want expert, structured newborn care — especially for twins, preemies or a first baby.
A postpartum doula supports the recovering parent and the household as well as the baby: rest, feeding support, newborn guidance, light household help and calm, non-medical reassurance during the early weeks. Some offer overnight care too.
Families choose this when they want broader emotional and practical support, not only overnight coverage.
Not sure which fits? Tell us your due date, household and sleep goals in the family form above. We will recommend the role before we recommend names.
